History of St. Michaels MD
St. Michael’s is the oldest town in Talbot County. It dates back to 1600. The first church that was built there, the Christ Episcopal Church of St Michael Archangel, was named in 1672.
The church has continued to serve the community for 340 years. You can still visit the church built in 1878 on Talbot St., right in the middle of downtown St. Michael. The churchyard cemetery contains many headstones dating back to the 1800s.
St. Michaels is located on a peninsula surrounded by beautiful bodies of water fed by the Chesapeake Bay.
The Miles River, the larger river of the two, is located to the west. The river is home to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and Muskrat Park. There are also marinas, restaurants, hotels, and the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Enjoy live music at Muskrat Park on Thursdays throughout the summer.
Broad Creek is quieter and ideal for kayaking to the east. From St. Michael’s Waterfront Park, you can see it.
