As we plan our dream trips or weekend excursions, our gut health is often not at the top of our priorities list.

No matter where your travels take you, when stomach troubles strike on the road it can make traveling unpleasant and make travel plans impossible to enjoy. Even if your digestive tract normally functions smoothly it may give way when traveling from state to state.

In this article, we’ll discuss ways you can safeguard your gut health and avoid digestive complications during travel.

Why Does Gut Trouble Occur? It can be mind boggling to think that our digestive tracts (known as our microbiome ) contain approximately 100 trillion bacteria cells totalling up to 22,000 different species! It’s astounding, yet remarkable at the same time!

Probiotics are beneficial bacteria which provide health benefits.

Promote good digestion and regularity, boost mood and strengthen and nourish the gut lining, produce vitamins like Vitamin K and B12 while aiding with the absorption of nutrients.
These “good bugs,” most notably our large and small intestines, make up 70-80% of our immune system and serve as our first line of defense against harmful pathogens and microbes.

However, traveling can change everything: stress, diet changes and jet lag can throw your digestive system out of sync resulting in symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, bloating, gas and nausea – not pleasant!

Maintaining good gut health when traveling can be challenging.
