A Natural Cavity Fighter

Cheese is one of the foods which has been proven to be beneficial for teeth. The calcium, phosphorus and casein in cheese are important for strengthening enamel and remineralizing teeth. The cheese also neutralizes the acids that can cause tooth decay and erode enamel.

A number of studies have shown that cheese has a positive effect on preventing cavities. In Denmark, for example, children were given small pieces of cheddar each morning before going to school. Children who ate the cheese had significantly less cavities compared to children who didn’t. After a sugary treat, children were given either sugar-free yogurt, sugar-free milk or cheddar cheese. Children who consumed cheese had lower acid levels in the mouth than those who consumed milk. Children who consumed yogurt had higher acid levels in their mouths, increasing their risk of developing cavities.
