I was less than excited about the idea of going to the beach this summer. The thought of crowds on boardwalks and seagulls diving-bombing my bucket of French fries made me feel uneasy. I decided to visit Peddlers Village, a colonial-style 18th-century village in Bucks County. Peddler’s Village has 65+ shops open air, a 66-room inn and even a restored 1922 antique carousel. Peddler’s Village has 7 full-service restaurants, a tasting room for wine, a taproom and gourmet treats.
Peddlers Village, with its Pennsylvania country charm in every corner and the many visitors it attracts year-round, is a true Mayberry. One of the best things about Peddlers Village is you can enjoy the outdoors while you are searching for treasures in picture-perfect country shops. Enjoy the warm weather and do some shopping.
Peddler’s Village History. How It Began with a Farmers Market, a California Dream.
Earl Jamison was a Bucks County native who had run a farmers’ market for many years. He visited California several times in the 1950s and 1960s. He was so inspired that he decided to recreate something similar at home. Jamison was able to make his dreams come true like Disney. Earl received a loan of $6000 from his uncle to purchase an old 6 acre chicken farm located in Lahaska, PA. He then seamlessly incorporated the historic farm buildings into his colonial-style shopping village. Peddler’s Village has grown to 42 acres, and is now one of the most popular shopping and event destinations in the area.
Stories in the Sand at Peddlers Village
Stories in Sand is a Village-wide exhibition of larger-than-life sculptures that honor stories and characters loved for generations. These include Brothers Grimm fairytales, Peter Pan and The Jungle Book. Winnie-the-Pooh and Mother Goose stories are also featured.
Families and children can enjoy sandboxes filled with toys. On Saturdays, at 11 a.m. Peddler’s Village stores will present free storytimes on the Village Green.
Visit the shops and restaurants of the Courtyard area to enter the drawing for a prize basket worth more than $825. One basket will be given away each at the end June, July and August.
